LOS ANGELES — Two masked burglars broke into a jewelry store on South Broadway early Thursday, Oct. 15, and crashed their getaway van into the building on the way out, police said.
The break-in happened at Rafaela Jewelry, a custom jewelry shop at 732 S. Broadway in the Jewelry District. The suspects grabbed merchandise and took off in a dark-colored sedan and a white van.
The store's metal security gate was ripped down onto the sidewalk, the front door was smashed in and the glass display cases were shattered, leaving jewelry and trays scattered across the floor.
A security guard at the store said he saw someone drive off in a black car. LAPD officers arrived around 4:25 a.m. and looked over the damage with the store's owner.
It was not immediately clear what was taken or how much it was worth. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact LAPD's Central Division.
