LOS ANGELES — A Tesla Cybertruck driver led Los Angeles police on a chase across the San Fernando Valley early Saturday, July 18, before crashing on the westbound 118 Freeway in Chatsworth, police said.
The chase started at Beverly and San Vicente boulevards in Beverly Grove after a traffic stop. Officers upgraded it to a pursuit of a suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
The Cybertruck crashed into brush along the freeway around 2:20 a.m. The driver refused to get out for about an hour while LAPD officers surrounded the truck. California Highway Patrol officers also responded.
During the standoff, the driver was on the phone with Tesla support, saying his leg was broken. Officers carried him to a patrol car, and he was taken into custody shortly before 3:30 a.m. His name has not been released.
